The golden era of skiing in the High Tatras began in 1970 thanks to the organization of the World Championships in classic skiing. This was followed by a great decline. The arrival of investors has changed the situation for to better, especially on the slopes. There is plenty to choose from. Especially in Štrbské Pleso, in Tatranská Lomnica and in the vicinity of Ždiar (Belianské Tatry) or in Zuberec-Spálená Dolina (Western Tatras). Even in the Tatras, you can experience the alpine standard. Cross-country skiing trails can be found in Štrbské Pleso (groomed trails) and in the Tatra villages (tourist).
The Jasná ski resort in the Low Tatras is the best in Slovakia. Both sides of Chopok always offer excellent conditions for skiers, they also hosted the Women's World Cup. In addition, there are other smaller ski resorts.
